They recently announced more details about the Fortnite World Cup which will take place this summer. The finals will take place in New York starting July 26th until 28th. The specific location is yet to be announced.
This event will make history because it consists of the largest prize pool ever in eSports history. There prize pool consists of $30 million and includes $3 million to the solo champion alone. Epic Games has already made $500 million on the iOS platform alone within less than a year. With that much success and profit, it is heart-warming to see the company invest into the community and the eSports industry.
Furthermore, those who wish to participate in the Fortnite World Cup will need to be at least 13 years old. Starting April 13th until June 16th, Epic Games will run 10 online qualifier tournaments, each consisting of $1 million prize pool. The money will be distributed broadly, according to Epic Games. The company will select the top 100 solo players from these qualifiers, including the 50 best duos, which will be invited to New York for the Finals. Epic Games guarantees each of the participants at least $50,000.
Finally, there will be more tournaments available following this World Cup. Epic Games has previously promised to invest a total of $100 million in 2019. With tens of millions already spent and announced, we are going to see more tournaments announced soon in different regions of the world with large prize pools until a total of $100 million has been spent on Fortnite eSports this year.
